David Dewar

BA (Hons) Church Music

Currently studying for a PhD in Musicology at the University of Bristol, David says: “I’d had a dual career from the 1970s as a freelance orchestral musician, and in parallel as an IT consultant. I’d been unable for family reasons to take up a place to read for a degree at the normal age and so was overjoyed at last to gain a place at Christ Church.

“I take a big part now in many public engagements with research activities and, as some icing on the cake, was a member (reserve) of the UoB’s University Challenge team a couple of years ago. I’m involved in a collaborative project with the Centre for Health, Humanities, and Science, alongside my principal research.

“I never dreamt all these opportunities would come my way – and all because I took the plunge at the age of 59 at Christ Church.  I’m having the time of my life.”
