First medal win for Rachel

Rachel Hanagan at her medal presentation

The nation held its breath as Lizzy Yarnold (Christ Church Honorary Fellow) fought successfully to retain her title as Olympic Women’s Skeleton Champion at the Winter Olympics 2018.  Now our own alumna, Rachel Hanagan (BSc Hons Sport and Exercise Science 2014) is training to qualify to join the Team UK in Beijing in 2022 and Cortina 2026.

Rachel travelled throughout Europe and Scandinavia to train at some of the world’s toughest tracks. She’s worked out until she’s been nearly sick, made every muscle in her body ache, bruised her legs, and – coming off her sled – has raced along the ice on her backside. Never a dull moment for this intrepid, determined and dedicated athlete. But the pain is giving rise to gain. Last month Rachel won her first medal achieving a Bronze at a Europa Cup race in Latvia.

Rachel, we wish you every success.
